Overview[]
Cirno is a relatively easy boss on lower difficulties, however she may prove to be a handful to newer players. Most of her spells are easy to predict and dodge.
Phase 1 (Normal Attack 1)[]
Description[]
This is similar to the first phase attack on EoSD This attack is separated into two different parts. The first part involves firing a bunch of icicles grouped in an arrow formation three times. The second part of her attack involves firing a ring of danmaku around her followed by a ring of more icicles (yellow colored) that spreads out for a bit before homing in on your playable character. She executes this attack three times.
Strategy[]
There are two ways you can tackle her first attack. If you're inexperienced with dodging, simply direct the icicle group to the top of the screen and move around the screen, this is ineffective on harder difficulty however (I'll explain more below). This method is a bit more trickier but it's possible to weave through the icicle cluster by moving slightly to the left/right after the cluster is fired. The second part of the attack is a lot easier to dodge. Simply move between the gaps in the danmaku ring, the homing icicles are easily dodged if you keep moving.
Normal Difficulty[]
Cirno now hurls a ring of danmakus after throwing her cluster of icicles. Also the icicle cluster is more wider than in easy difficulty.
Strategy is pretty much the same in easy mode although trying to circumvent around the icicle cluster is a lot more trickier.
Hard Difficulty[]
The icicle cluster is similar to easy mode except there are more icicles per cluster making it more difficult to weave through. Cirno will fire about 2-3 waves of danmaku for every homing icicle ring she fires.
Circumventing the icicle clusters is very hard at this stage so by now you should be attempting to weave through her fired icicle cluster. Other than that, the game remains the same.
Phase 2[]
Ice Sign: Icicle Fall (Easy Mode Only)[]
Description[]
Cirno begins firing lines of icicles to the left and right which drop down towards the player. Icicles fired left will curve down towards the right and vice versa. Cirno will also fire yellow colored danmaku downwards that spread out.
Strategy[]
Simply move to the left/right of the screen when the danmakus on the sides begin to cross the middle. Don't worry about the yellow danmakus as they pose little threat.
Hail Sign: Hailstorm (Normal and Hard Modes)[]
Description[]
Cirno begins firing several lines of icicles that spread outwards in a sun like formation at first before dropping down slowly moving left or right. She fires around 10 rounds before pausing and repeating.
Strategy[]
This is very similar to her last spell (Snow Sign: Diamond Blizzard) in easy mode, only this time it's a lot easier. Treat it the same way as you would with her last spell card. Can't really say much here.
Hard Mode[]
Not much has changed aside from more bullets are fired in every "sun ray". Again treat the spell as if it was normal mode.
Phase 3 (Normal Attack 2)[]
Description[]
This is similar to the third phase attack on EoSD. Again like the first normal attack, this move is separated into two parts. The first part involves Cirno firing a ring of larger danmaku and a ring of smaller danmaku. The larger danmaku travels pretty fast in comparison to the smaller ones. She fires about 8 waves in quick succession. The second part of the attack involves firing three lasers in the direction of the character with each laser at a 40 degree angle. She fires the lasers three times.
Strategy[]
The danmakus are spaced far apart so there isn't much to worry about. Just stay between the large gaps and you should be fine. When she pauses after her volley of danmakus, position yourself between the lasers when she fires them.
Normal Mode[]
Pretty much the same as easy mode except she fires more danmaku per ring. Her lasers gain an additional effect where she'll fire a ring of danmaku after firing the laser bunch.
Hard Mode[]
Phase 4 (Freeze Sign: Perfect Freeze)[]
Description[]
Much like the EoSD counterpart, this move is separated into three parts. Cirno first fires an array of multicolored bullets in different directions in quick succession spraying everywhere around her. The bullets travel at a high speed. After about 5 seconds, she'll freeze the bullets causing all of them to change color and stop in their tracks. Cirno then fires a bunch of smaller bullets littering them down while moving left/right. Finally Cirno defrosts the bullets that was previously frozen to move in random directions.
Strategy[]
Simply dodge the colored bullets spraying everywhere. When Cirno release the smaller danmakus afer freezing, simply position yourself between the danmakus that she throws, they'll always be bunched in a line formation. When Cirno unfreezes the bullets, take note of the paths the bullets will move in as they'll always travel in one direction. Can't really say much to help here, it's all about practice.
Normal Mode[]
Cirno will fire more bullets in the first part of her attack. The bullet line she fires in the second part of her attack will be more diagonal requiring the player to zip through the gap in quick succession. Other than that, most of this phase remains the same.
This is more luck based than the previous phase especially the second part of her attack. If the frozen bullets are impeding you in some way, feel free to use a bomb at this point.
Hard Mode[]
Phase 5 (Snow Sign: Diamond Blizzard)[]
Description[]
Cirno creates miniature explosions around her in quick succession that summons a small ring of icicles that spread out. The icicles travel slowly.
Strategy[]
This phase is probably one of the easiest ones, just simply weave around the icicles thrown and stay as far away from Cirno (for obvious reasons)
Normal Mode[]
Cirno will create explosions faster and the icicles travel a bit faster. Treat it the same way as you would in easy mode although you'd might want to focus more on dodging than going offensive.
