東方星蓮船 Undefined Fantastic Object (romanized: Touhou Seirensen, meaning "Star-Lotus Ship of the East") is the twelfth official game of the Touhou series. A trial version of the game was released at Reitaisai 6(March 2009), and the full game was released at Comiket 76 in August.

Gameplay

Main article: Undefined Fantastic Object: Gameplay

Undefined Fantastic Object features three playable characters (Reimu, Marisa and Sanae), each with two weapon types. However, unlike Mountain of Faith and Subterranean Animism, the spell card (bombing) system from the older games (such as Perfect Cherry Blossom and Imperishable Night) has been reintroduced.

The gameplay system unique to Undefined Fantastic Object comes this time in the form of colored UFOs. Certain enemies will drop a UFO on destruction, which the player can collect for different effects. By utilizing this system, the player can receive more bombs, life pieces, or point bonuses.

Story

Main article: Undefined Fantastic Object: Translation

There has been a rumor spreading throughout Gensokyo since the early spring about a flying treasure ship. Since it brings good omen, the heroines race to see who will be the first to board the ship. But from the sky, there's a black, shadowy figure moving at a high speed chasing the girls...

Additional Information

In the original version of Undefined Fantastic Object, the UFOs were colored red, green, and blue. However, due to possible difficulties colorblind players could have differentiating between them, the 1.00B patch slightly adjusts the color of one of the UFOs. It also solved a bug in which the player could not exceed one billion points.

The English translation patch was released on September 8th, 2009, and must be installed over the official 1.00B patch.

In addition, a method for playing Undefined Fantastic Object on a vertically-oriented monitor exists, created by niisaka at Tari Lari Run.

The Touhou BGM Extractor, as of 1.4 beta 2, is able to extract the music from the game.
