Touhou Mother: Miscellaneous
This game has many, many references, so the attempt to actually list them is quite grand, but list them we shall!*
*This goes without saying, but spoilers galore!

Most silent main characters used in games that you can name the character yourself and doesn't have any official names (some exception like Mother series, Ys series, Zelda series, Pokemon series, etc). It's very rare for a character that his/her name is not alterable in game to not be able to talk at all... (Most noticeably, Ys series. Adol Chistin can't have his name changed, but never talks)
Description- The Hakurei Shrine box is empty.
Location- Hakurei Shrine
Reference- Touhou Fandom, Official

Explanation- Oh snap! Marisa has broken the 4th Wall! In case you don't know, the "4th Wall" is when a video game/comic/movie/etc. character speaks directly to the audience. For example, if Marisa told you to get off your lazy bum and exercise, she broke the 4th wall, because she not telling the people around her, but you, behind the T.V/Computer /Comic screen. This is reminiscent to Mother series as well, where some NPCs just slipped to talk about the players (Swirling screen, etc), hence, broke the 4th wall.

Location- Patchy's room, SDM
Reference- Touhou Fandom, Official?, Relationshipping
Explanation- A running gag is that Marisa has a lot of girls crushing on her, and it's not that she doesn't know but it's because, Marisa is... well, Marisa. Maybe it's because she has more important things on her mind... like stealing Patchy's books! Now, I'll pull another reference that both RPG fans and Touhou fans like doing which is matchmaking and this is no exception to the Touhou universe. Thing is, almost all are female, and this coined the term "Everyone in Gensokyo is gay." aka relationshipping. Strangely this is not at all weird, in fact, it's kinda cute... Explanation- It's a F.O.E.! (Foedus Obrepit Errabundus in EN version. Field-On Enemy in JP version). It had this nasty habit of sneaking up on you and attacking when you are seriously weakened, and they're often far stronger than the players. Not in this game, at least. Note that this might be a translator's license, and is in fact just Kedama, the minor Touhou enemy that is often compared to F.O.E. Their popularity of nastiness rises thanks to Iosys's song, F.O.E. The arranger must be hated F.O.E.s that much. And on the same part, Iosys is very well known to make Touhou musics arrangement with lyrics like Marisa Stole the Precious Thing. This is why F.O.E. exists in Touhou fandom.
