I will begin posting the scripts of the game. Considering the amount of text the game has, it will take a lot of time to finish it. - Laveil 18:34, 12 February 2008 (PST)
Can someone post some more scripts soon? - NForza 13:03, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
Now that the individual character scripts are about done, can we start working on the scenarios again? - NForza 05:58, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
Bah, I should've put up scripts as I went through the scenarios. What format do you guys want for the items when we add those? The full list is right here, though it lacks the descriptions. It would certainly be a hassle to include those, seeing as they're randomly picked in the shop. - Selphos 04:55, November 22, 2009 (UTC)
Well, I guess we don't have to worry about the descriptions until we get some more of the scenarios done. We'll probably use a similar format for the items page. NForza 11:54, November 22, 2009 (UTC)
Inconsistencies and other issues[]
Since the translation of the game is almost finished, I'm planning to make some final editing changes to the scripts and release the full patch after. While I'm doing editing though, there's a few inconsistencies between all the scripts done on here as well as other issues I'm a bit leery off that I'd like to have settled first. I'll probably edit this part with more issues as I come across them while editing as well.
Yuka VS Yuuka: I generally prefer the former, and that's how it's spelled in this wiki as well.
Mari VS Mary: I prefer the former; most of the names I see with a Mari-prefix like Maria, Marie, Marianne and so on usually shorten their names to Mari rather than Mary, as far as I know.
Coach VS Manager (監督): This one has been translated differently between the travel mode and main scenario bits. Coach is probably the right option here though, since he does specifically name Maribel as Manager in the briefing for the first match in the main scenario.
東方の守護神: This has been translated as "Guardian Goddess of the East" in the main scenario, and "Touhou Guardian Deity" in the character listing. The former -sounds- better to me, but the lack of Touhou in the name when it's obviously referenced here may be odd.
お姉様: Flandre addressing Remilia by this in the main scenario and the Lilys subscenario has been translated as "Dear sister". Is this a common way to address older sisters respectfully in certain cultures? It sounds a bit weird to me, and particularly not something Flandre would say. It's also been translated as plainly "Sister" in Remilia and Flandre's subscenario, but if respect should be emphasized, perhaps it could be "Elder Sister" instead?
ふふ, うふふ, etc: This kind of laughter sound effect has been translated as "Hmhm" for some characters (Yukari, Mima, Yuka, Mokou) and "Hehe" or "Ehehe" for some others (PC98 Marisa, Flandre). I thought this was intentional at first, to divide between those who usually have questionable intentions and those who are just playful, but Mokou being in the former camp seems weird. Should this divide be kept, or should it be standardized?
Regarding overflowing lines: The translations of a few of the lines in these scripts will have to be shortened in order to fit into the textboxes of the game. Should the "more complete" translations be left here, or should the edited, shortened ones go up instead for those affected? As far as I can tell, the wiki's policy leans towards the former, though I'm not certain on this. DerangedTHMN 04:41, March 2, 2010 (UTC)
Family VS Clan: I've more or less assumed that the latter will be used now, for both the Yakumo and Saigyouji, but confirmation would be good.
Spellcard VS Spell Card: Don't really have a preference for either; I'll stick with the former if no one does, since it's less work. DerangedTHMN 15:40, March 2, 2010 (UTC)
Just realized I should probably confirm this before I make mass changes. As I mentioned in one of the edits, the stats 速度 and 消費 are actually listed in-game on the status screen as ドリブル速度 and ドリブル消費. I've for now put it as "Dribble Speed" and "Dribble Cost" (Dribble Consumption doesn't fit in status screen), unless there's any other suggestions (or the original Speed & Consumption is preferred).
Similarly, Against Dribble and Against Shot doesn't fit in the status screen, so I've changed a few (and in-game) to VS Dribble and VS Shot for now. DerangedTHMN 16:59, March 3, 2010 (UTC)
蟲姫様: It just occured to me that this team name (Main Scenario Match 7) is likely a reference to Mushihime-sama (虫姫様), the CAVE shooter. Should we stick with the literal translation Bug Princess, or leave it romanized to preserve the reference?
As for the dummied-out dialogue, I'm keeping them in the game files just in case I suddenly see them being used, but I suspect they were only valid for the original Touhou Soccer game and overwritten for this expansion. They probably don't belong here if they're not shown in the game or in any supplementary text files. DerangedTHMN 08:09, March 6, 2010 (UTC)
Yuka VS Yuuka: From my experiences there is a subtle difference between the spellings and pronunciation, but it's still there. Also, there is a character in the Yotsuba& manga whose name is officially romanized as Fuuka. My preference is strongly for the latter, but really either works.
Mari VS Mary: Well, any instances of "Mary" are back from when I first started translating the game and I didn't know much about the music CD characters. Then again, one of the tracks is translated as "Mary the Magician", and even though it's fan-translated obviously, I still prefer Mary. Either is fine though.
Coach VS Manager (監督): Coach
東方の守護神: 東方 is a name, but it's also just a regular word. I realize the reference was intentional, but due to the fact that its 東方の守護神 and not 東方守護神, I think that something like "Guardian Deity of the East" would work best.
お姉様: "Dear Sister" does sound a little antiquated, I suppose, but I have never heard "お姉様" outside of comics, cartoons, or games. "Elder Sister" might work, although if she says it a lot in a short amount of time, then I think just "Sister" would be OK.
ふふ, うふふ, etc: The way I see it is that more mature characters (including Mokou, at least in this game) say "hmhmhm" and the more childish characters say "hehehe".
Regarding overflowing lines: Go ahead and make the changes to the wiki. That way I can take a look at them and see if they still make enough sense and contain enough meaning. NForza 05:06, March 2, 2010 (UTC)
Family VS Clan: I don't think they're necessarily related in a familial way, so 'clan' should be fine.
Spellcard VS Spell Card: Yeah, 'spellcard' will save space anyway. NForza 00:18, March 3, 2010 (UTC)
Ah, I see. Yeah, "Dribble Speed" and "Dribble Cost" make a little more sense, so let's go with that. NForza 05:28, March 4, 2010 (UTC)
蟲姫様: Oh yeah, nice catch. Maybe just go with "The Mushihime-samas" since it's a team name and all. NForza 08:26, March 6, 2010 (UTC)
Okay, I've gone through all the scripts on wiki and in-game now. Video and image editing is also almost done, so let me know when you're satisfied with the scripts as well and the patch should be released soonish after. DerangedTHMN 06:12, March 14, 2010 (UTC)
- Alright, go for it. NForza 04:32, March 16, 2010 (UTC)
