To "collect" a spell card, do you have to defeat it without using any bombs or losing any lives, or will merely surviving it (i.e. time runs out) be enough to collect the spell (even though there's no Spell Bonus)?

What belongs here?

Okay, so we have this page. Are we really planning to include all the gameplay intricacies of all the games here? I can understand explaining general concepts like Point Items being worth more at the top of the screen, Power items, Bombs, 1ups, but now we're listing the game-specific information like exactly how many point items you need for IN, or the Cherry and Time scoring systems from PCB and IN respectively. Personally, I feel that the gameplay and scoring for each of the Touhou games are different enough to warrant their own seperate article for each one. --Leviathean 19:56, 15 Jun 2005 (PDT)


I don't know, that's what I thought at first. But since someone took the time to write this article, I figured there'll be no harm from contributing to it and seeing where that takes us. It's not as bad as I thought, actually... Stating when a specific feature started to be included seems to help a lot. There haven't been enough games since TH06 for feature overlaps and exceptions to become confusing yet.
Game-specific idiosyncracies might be moved into their respective games' Gameplay articles once they've been refined (though I haven't thought about how that would work). It seems that a general Mechanics article sees more traffic than a game-specific Gameplay article, so that may help with spotting and correcting mistakes.
