I'll fix the damage formulas later, as well as the leveling difficulty if someone will show me how to calculate it. Compwiz 07:21, January 21, 2010 (UTC)

I tried to explain how to calculate it here but... that didn't seem to go particularly well. If you don't understand, just have the Plus-Disk character reach the same level as a Non-Plus character, and tell me both of their Required Exp to Level-Up. NeoSerela 22:06, January 21, 2010 (UTC)

The page is finally done, except for the mistakes that I'm sure I made. Compwiz 17:30, January 29, 2010 (UTC)

Resummarization Attempts[]

What follows are attempts to re-summarize the characters to expand the amount of gametime it covers and generally be more 'fair' to the characters by finding reasons to use everyone. Hopefully these come off as neutral, but it's sometimes hard to be that way about certain characters. Please add in any comments you have to a new line -following- the proposed description, instead of just editing it flat out, and feel free to sign your comments, too.! --Parallaxal 19:34, August 6, 2010 (UTC)

Renko Usami

While she has by far the lowest damage capabilities of any character in the game, Renko can still be a valuable ally. She is nearly unmatched when it comes to crippling enemies with status effects and debuffs. Galaxy Stop is the strongest paralysis spell you can have in your arsenal, and even if the paralysis effect misses, it can still wreck havoc on an enemy's SPD. Debilitate is there to hit all other stats as well. Take note that all her spells reduce stats by 100%, even though debuffs are normally capped at -50%. This means they can be used to nullify large buffs, and can potentially still have large effects even on enemies with good debuff resistance. Aside from her offensive effects, Renko also possesses a powerful group buff spell, but beware of its heavy drawbacks. Selecting a safe time to cast it may mean life or death. Renko's stats may not look impressive, but she doesn't need them to perform her role as a supporter. Avoid raising her MAG, though, as Charge can hurt your party, and Galaxy Stop shouldn't be used for its damage anyway.

Maribel Han

Maribel's stats and spell formulas may look disappointingly average at first, but she happens to possess Overflowing Unnatural Power, which can boost all her stats by a significant amount. As long as she has the time and SP, she should try to keep herself buffed, which turns her spells from lackluster to quite potent. Maribel has a solid selection of attack spells spanning three different elements, covering an impressive spectrum of delays and formula types. She can do damage in addition to applying a wide variety of debuffs, or use Hyperdimensional Flying Object to hit high MND targets. Wielding a versatile arsenal and backed by a strong self-buff, Maribel is a character who may require a bit of extra effort to be at her best, but is self-sufficient enough to accomplish this all on her own.

Utsuho Reiuji

Like a nuclear reactor being overloaded, Utsuho is a character who grows more and more powerful as the battle goes on. Her spells may not seem too strong when first used, but they come with effects that will increase her damage output turn after turn. Uncontained Nuclear Reaction isn't particularly strong, but has relatively low delay and boosts Utsuho's MAG each time it's cast. Hell's Tokamak is a stronger option, and can weaken an enemy's MND stat to further aid your magical onslaught. Once Utsuho is sufficiently buffed, feel free to unleash Giga Flare, which ignores enemy MND and is capable of impressive numbers if backed by her MAG boosts. If you're using Utsuho, be aware that although her overall stat growths are solid, she has low resistances to most status effects, three low affinities, and tends to weaken her own defenses. Careful switching may be necessary to keep her out of danger, but in return she will provide a strong source of FIR and MYS damage.

Kanako Yasaka

Kanako possesses well-rounded stats that make her a decent mage character with reasonable survivability as well. Unlike most mages, she has a diverse selection of attack spells that let her hit hard in nearly all situations. Beautiful Spring Like Suiga is the most powerful CLD nuke in the game, and will usually be her primary weapon in boss battles. Against multiple foes, she can hit them all hard with Virtue of Wind God, but if faced against opponents with high MND or WND resistance, she's got a reliable physical option that targets DEF instead. Kanako's best assets for your party will be her versatile offense, her potent CLD nuke, and her ability to take a few hits while out.

Yuka Kazami

Boasting great stat growths and an array of unique nukes, Yuka offers several perks as an offensive mage. Unlike most magic-users, she possesses better DEF than MND. Most of her spells may be of the same NTR element, but they each have very different uses. Flower Shot isn't very strong, but it is cheap and can be spammed quickly if you need Yuka's turn again soon. Gensokyo's Reflowering isn't a replacement for a dedicated healer, but it does help while still doing solid damage. Beauty of Nature can be valuable if faced with debuff effects, and is a good option against high MND targets as well. The added effects of these spells may not be particularly powerful, but they come attached to already strong spells. And then there's the infamous Master Spark. Yuka's version may not be as strong as Marisa's, but it does hit all targets. While she lacks Marisa's Concentrate for buffing herself, Yuka is durable enough to stay out and receive buffs from others. Thankfully, her fantastic PAR resistance makes her an excellent recipient of Iku's Thundercloud Stickleback.

Mystia Lorelei

Don't be fooled by her lackluster stat growths and easy recruitment: Mystia is a great addition to many parties. Not only does she level very quickly, but her spells are surprisingly strong and useful. Ill-Starred Dive is remarkably powerful for a low-delay attack, and can be spammed quickly for decent damage. Poisonous Moth's Dark Dance doesn't do great damage, but it does inflict fairly powerful paralysis and poison effects. Combined with her good speed, Mystia can use it to disable fast enemies with ease, especially on the upper floors of the Plus Disk. Midnight Chorus Master has a much weaker paralysis effect, but a nice damage formula makes it great if you need Mystia to sweep fast but weak foes. Against bosses with status effects and debuffs, Mysterious Song may well be your best supporting spell. Not only is it the fastest status healing spell in the game, but it transforms debuffs into buffs. Tack on Mystia's amazing resistances to all ailments except instant death, and you've got yourself a useful character for both random encounters and boss battles.

Keine Kamishirasawa

Her balanced stats and seemingly typical spells may not make her stand out much, but Keine does do one thing surprisingly well while suffering from few weaknesses, if any. She can be used to do moderate damage, given her ability to hit either DEF or MND with a non-elemental spell, but this is more suitable for clearing floor trash than for boss fights. Where she excels, though, is with her buffs. Admittedly, her defensive buff is mediocre compared to Great Hakurei Barrier, but her offensive buffs are a completely different story. No other character can raise an entire active party's offensive stats so quickly and with no drawbacks. Keep in mind that ATK and MAG buffs are useful even for tanks and healers like Meiling and Sanae, as these buffs can be used to augment the potency of their healing spells. In addition, Keine boasts solid survivability thanks to her great HP growth and elemental affinities, letting her stay out on the front lines while charging up your party's offensive stats turn after turn.

Shikieiki Yamaxanadu

The Judge of the Dead offers you the most consistant offense in the entire game. No amount of defensive stats or elemental affinities can stop the relentless might of Last Judgment. Thanks to her high ATK and its great damage formula, you can expect Last Judgment to be an excellent single-target nuke in every battle. If for some reason her damage output is not enough, she can inflict an enormous array of debuffs and status effects with Wandering Sin, giving her an all-purpose support option. If you want to use her for random encounters, you'll need to boost her MAG for her expensive multi-target nuke. However, ATK is still more important, as Shikieiki will always shine the most in boss fights, especially against targets with daunting defenses.

I hope Garlyle won't mind my stealing his thunder for this page, but I figured I could write this one because I've had significant experience with using all Plus Disk characters. --Parallaxal 19:34, August 6, 2010 (UTC)

  • No, no, it's quite alright. Actually, I can't think of much in the way of protests or marks. I'm almost tempted to say to note that Keine and Mystia have the low SP costs to be useful in a New Game + too, unlike many other late-game characters. Also I'm not entirely sure Kanako is so great for damage outside of Beautiful CLD Nuke, but that might just be that the enemies I'm fighting right now, and I'm still early in Plus Disk. But yeah, this looks good at the moment. --Garlyle 00:26, August 7, 2010 (UTC)
    • To be honest, I don't think Mystia and Keine are really that NG+ friendly with their SP costs. Mystia's best spells for a NG+ still cost 80 SP, and you'd usually want to use them for every random encounter, so she'll burn through her SP pool quickly for a long time. Keine's buffs aren't bad, but still kind of overcosted if you want to use them more than twice or so. Other buffers will probably give you more bang for your buck in the early game.

If there are no other comments, I'll be adding these descriptions to the actual page tomorrow. --Parallaxal 22:47, August 13, 2010 (UTC)
