Super Marisa Land is an amusing doujin game starring none other than Marisa. As the name implies, the game imitates Mario to a certain degree, and if you're a hardcore Mario player you're bound to recognize a few familiar elements and sections of the map. Marisa can eat those mushrooms to grow in size of "head proportions," and special mushrooms doubles her size so that she can shoot fireballs and destroy blocks. This game has many kinds of enemies and no end to levels.

Mechanics

Point items are accumulated for grabbing boxes in the level, as well as killing enemies. Killing enemies in a combo yields more point items, e.g. 1 for the first, 2 in the second, etc. When 256 point items are accumulated, an extra Marisa is awarded and the counter resets to 0.

No points are earned in-level, but instead are accumulated at the end-of-level as follows:

 Head proportion x 1000 + Point items x 100 + Time x 10 = Stage score

Each stage has a halfway point, where, if you die after this point, you restart at this point rather than at the beginning.

Head Proportion Mechanics

Similar to the mushroom system of the various Mario games, Marisa can grow between various powers that affects the way she interacts with the stages.

The various levels are:

2 -> 3 -> 4 -> 6 -> 8

 2: You start here at the beginning of each stage, regardless of the previous stage. One hit at this level and you're dead.
 3: Marisa is a little bigger. She can take one hit and shrink down to 2, but aside from that and the size difference, there is no functional difference.
 4: Marisa is the same size as head proportion 3, but is able now to break bricks.
 6: Marisa is able to shoot fireballs straight forward.
 8: Similar to a star in Mario games, she is invincible. After the invincibility runs out, though, she returns to the head proportion level she was at previously. (Might be wrong)

Small mushrooms increase head proportion by 1, to a limit of 4. Larger mushrooms set Marisa to head proportion 6, except when at 2, where she only goes up to 4 instead. Head proportion 8 can only be achieved from a special mushroom.

Upon being hit, Marisa (except at 8) loses half of her head proportion, rounded upwards, except at 2, where she loses a life.
