冬にしか見る事の出来ない妖怪がいる。	There is a youkai that can only be seen during winter.
寒い場所を好み、人間を凍えさせて戦闘不能に陥れる恐怖の妖怪が、このレティ・ホワイトロックだ。	A youkai that loves cold locations, Letty Whiterock is feared for ensnaring humans and freezing them, rendering them useless in combat.
判りやすく言えば、雪女の一種である。	To keep it simple, she is a type of Yuki-onna.
見た目は防寒具とは思えない様な軽い服を纒った少女の姿を取る。	This youkai appears as a lady wearing light clothing that doesn't seem like it would protect her from the cold.
彼女が現れるからなのか、そういう日に現れるからなのか判らないが、非常に寒い日に現れる。	She does show up during unusually cold days, though it is unknown whether the coldness is due to her appearance, or she appears only on such days.
余りの寒さに戦意喪失してしまう（＊１）だろう。	The extreme coldness might take your fighting spirit away (*1).
彼女の術中に嵌ってしまえば、戦う前から勝負が見えていると言って過言ではない。	If caught by her tricks, it isn't an exaggeration to say that she'd win even before a match.
直載、風を吹かせたり雪を降らせたりする訳では無いが、自然にある冬の効果を強める事が出来る為、一人の妖怪では出せそうもない途轍も無い力が発揮される。	She doesn't bring wind and snow by herself. However, she can enhance the natural effect of winter, so she shows ridiculous powers which seem impossible for one youkai.
自然に左右されるものの、その力は強大である。	Despite being determined by nature, her power is extremely strong.
冬に暴れるだけ暴れた後、春が来るとはたと姿を見せなくなる。	After causing a thorough riot during winter, she suddenly disappears when spring comes.
次の冬が来るまでどこかで隠れているらしい。	It seems she hides somewhere until the next winter.
目撃報告例	Eyewitness Reports
・寒い日に限ってあいつを見るんだよ　（匿名）	"I only see her on cold days." (Anonymous)
そういう事もあってか、この妖怪に対する印象は良くない。	Probably because of such reasons, this youkai does not leave a good impression.
・外が吹雪いていると、あいつが出てくるんじゃないかと思って外を出歩けないよ。うちは暖房がしっかりしているから大丈夫だけど　（香霖堂店主）	"When there is a snowstorm outside, I can't go outside because I'm afraid she might appear. However, my house is safe because it has good heating." (The shop owner of Kourindou)
冬は出来るだけ晴れた日だけ出掛けるようにしたい。	I would advise that people go out only on fine days during winter, if possible.
ただ、長期間家の中に籠もっていると、家ごと屋根の雪に潰されてしまうので注意。	However, if you shut yourself up in your house for a long time, the snow piled up on the roof will cause your house to collapse on you, so beware.
対策	Countermeasures
この寒気というものは非常に厄介で、冷たい物をぶつける（＊２）のではなく、空間全体の温度を下げるのである。	The thing called cold air is really troublesome. It is not a physically casted cold object (*2), but something that lowers the temperature of the whole area.
健康な者も体を壊す、活動的な者も大人しくなる、戦意を喪失する。	Even healthy people get sick. Even active people become inactive. They lose their fighting spirit.
これを完全に回避する方法は無いと言って良いだろう。	There may be no way to completely avoid it.
まず、暖かい格好をする。	First and foremost, wear warm clothes.
これが一番大事である。	This is the most important thing.
逃げる間、体が動けば良いのである。	It is enough if your body can move while you flee.
特に体の末端が冷えるようならば、血行が悪くなっているかも知れないので、食生活に気をつける。	In particular, if the ends of your body get cold, your circulation might become bad, so you should take care to eat well.
うっかり軽装でこの妖怪に出くわしてしまった場合、寒さはかなり広範囲に及ぶので、逃げ切るのは至難の業である。	If you are careless and happen to see her while wearing light clothes, it is hopelessly difficult to escape, because the coldness extends for a wide range.
寒さに強くなければ、生き延びることは出来ないだろう。	You can't survive if you are not tough in the cold.
ただ、この恐怖の妖怪も、天下は冬の間だけである。	However, even though this youkai is horrible, she only appears during winter.
春になり、暖かくなってくればもう恐くない。	When spring comes and it gets warm, there is nothing to fear.
もし、夏の間にこの妖怪を発見したら、それは鬱憤を晴らす絶好の機会だろう（＊３）。	If you find this youkai during summer, it might be your best chance to strike (*3).
＊１　朝、布団から出られなくなるとか。	1: An example would be your not being able to get out of bed during mornings.
＊２　どこぞの妖精みたいに。	2: Like that of a certain fairy.
＊３　今のところ、冬以外で出くわしたという報告は無いが。	3: However, there has been no report of seeing her when it is not winter.
