特徴	Characteristics
自然現象そのものの正体。	The true identity of natural phenomena themselves.
寒くなったり暖かくなったり、雨が降ったり風が吹いたり、草が生えたり花が咲いたり、そういった一つ一つの現象に妖精は宿る。	Fairies live in such phenomena where it gets cold and hot, rain falls and wind blows, grass grows and flowers bloom.
姿は様々であるが、人間の姿に蝶やトンボといった虫のような羽根を持った者が多い。	They come in various shapes, but many of them are humanoid with wings like those of the insects called butterflies and dragonflies.
体長は一様に小さく、手のひらに載る程度の者から、大きくとも十に満たない人間の幼子程度しかない者が殆どだ。	Height is uniformly small, from the degree where they can fit in the palm of one's hand, up to the size of a child below ten years of age. There is hardly any fairy outside of this scope.
生息場所は自然ある処全て。	They live wherever there's nature.
幻想郷の何処でもその姿を確認できる。	You can confirm their existence anywhere in Gensokyo.
特に騒がしい場所を好み、人間や妖怪が集まっている時はその姿を多く目撃できるだろう。	They specifically prefer noisy places, so when humans and youkai gather you can probably spot lots of them.
反対に陰気な場所では数が減る。	On the other hand, in gloomy places their numbers decrease.
人里でも頻繁に見かける妖怪の一つである。	They are a kind of youkai you frequently can see even in human villages.
活動時間もまちまちであり、昼間であろうと夜であろうと遭遇する。	Time of activity is diverse, so you can probably encounter them both at daytime and in the night.
これと言った法則性はないようだ。	It seems that there isn't any regularity.
また、妖精の個体は短命（＊１）だが、すぐに同じ姿で生まれ変わる。	Still, an individual fairy is short-lived(*1), but they immediately resurrect in the same shape.
躰がバラバラになる位の大怪我を負ってもすぐに治る。	Even if they suffer large injuries so that their bodies are in pieces, they heal immediately.
厳密な意味では、妖精は死ぬ事がない。	In a stricter sense fairies can't die.
だから死を恐れない無鉄砲な行動を取る。	Therefore they take reckless action, without fearing death.
死の概念が人間と異なる為にそう見えるが、単に頭が弱いとも言う。	Since their concept of death differs from that of humans it may look so, it is also said that they simply are stupid.
妖精は、実は食事を取る必要がないが、人間が美味しそうに食事をするのを真似て、人間と同じ物を食べる。	Fairies don't really need to eat, but they see the way humans deliciously eat their meals, and copy them and eat the same things as humans.
人間が食べる物なら何でも食べる。	They eat anything which humans eat.
特に、人間が食べようとしている物をこっそり奪って食べるのが好きである。	They especially like to secretly steal that which humans are planning to eat.
被害内容	Potential Harm
思いつきによる悪戯	Pranks on a Whim
総じて悪戯好きである。	They all like pranks.
歩いている人を見かければ道に迷わせる。	If they catch sight of humans walking somewhere they make them lose their way.
掃除をしていれば風を起こして折角集めた塵を吹き飛ばしてしまう。	When you´re cleaning they´ll raise the wind to send all your gathered dust off flying.
見てない隙にお茶に塩を入れる。	When you are not looking they put salt in your tea.
後先考えずに、目の前に居る者の行動を邪魔する。	Without thinking of the consequences, they disturb the actions of those in front of their eyes.
崖から突き落とされたり、背中に火を付けられたりと、時には行きすぎた悪戯もあるので注意が必要である。	There are also occasionally pranks that go too far, such as when you get pushed off a cliff, or when your back is set on fire, so it is necessary to be cautious.
対処法	Countermeasures
考え事をしながら道を歩くと道に迷う。	When you walk down the road while thinking about something else you lose your way.
友人と話に熱中していると、その隙に荷物を持って行かれる。	When you´re absorbed in conversation with a friend, your luggage is carried away when you're not looking.
これらは往々にして、妖精による悪戯が原因として考えられる。	Things like these are sometimes thought to be caused by fairies.
悪戯に引っ掛かりやすい人間とは、注意が散漫だったり、他の事に気を取られがちな人間である。	The people that most easily get pulled into pranks are those that are uncautious and prone to being preoccupied with other things.
妖精は、注意深い人間には近寄らない。	Fairies won't go near cautious people.
だから、普段から周囲に気を付けていれば大丈夫である。	Therefore, if you usually pay attention to your surroundings you should be fine.
もし、悪戯に引っ掛かってしまった場合はどうするか。	If you were to be pulled into a prank, what to do?
実は、妖精は無鉄砲だが余り戦闘は好まないのである。	The truth is that while fairies are reckless, they don't like fighting much at all.
人間が悪戯に気が付くと、妖精は一目散に逃げ去るだろう。	When a human notices the prank, the fairies will probably get away as fast as they can.
もし、捕まえる事に成功したのなら、大して強くないので、日頃の鬱憤を晴らすと良い。	If you were to be successful in catching one, you can freely vent your anger on it since they're not very strong.
大人の人間なら簡単に勝てるだろう。	A grown human should win easily.
ただし、時として例外的に、悪戯を行わずにいきなり攻撃を仕掛けてくる事もある。	However, there are also the occasional exceptions where without doing any pranks, they just suddenly attack.
こういう時は気を付けなければいけない。	At such times you must be careful.
それは、何かの警告である可能性があるからだ。	That is because there is a possibility that it is a warning for something.
特に大勢の妖精が集まっていたり、騒いでいる時は、その付近にとてつもなく強力な妖怪が潜んでいる可能性がある（＊２）ので注意されたし。	Especially when fairies aggregate in large numbers and make noise, there is a possibility that there is an unbelievably powerful youkai lurking about nearby(*2). Therefore you must be careful.
その時は大人しく引き返した方が良いだろう。	At such times I think it's best if you just quietly head back home.
(＊1)　妖精の命は、人間のそれとは異なるので、短命という言い方は間違い。	1: Fairy life differs from that of humans, so it is a mistake to say that they are short-lived.
(＊2) 妖精の量と凶暴さは、付近の危険度を表している。	2: The number and ferocity of fairies expresses the threat level of the surrounding area.
