The spirit of a young drowning victim who afterwards became a notorious threat due to her power to sink ships. After several years spent capsizing ships for the fun of it, she was recruited by Byakuren Hijiri to pilot the Palanquin Ship. When Byakuren was sealed away by humans, the Captain and the other youkai decided to revive her by collecting the mysterious flying objects.
Fun Facts
- Due to her outfit, fans have made connections between her and Chiyuri Kitashirakawa.
- Within hours of the game's release, crossover fanart surfaced with her appearing as Popeye.
- Her stage theme has a distinctive Windows XP balloon hint "pop" around 2:10, which probably got in the recording, as stated in ZUN's Twitter.
- Like Aya Shameimaru in Mountain of Faith, Minamitsu Murasa doesn't seem to have a gimmick/variation based on the playable character (which is something usual in stage 4 bosses).
- In addition to that, like Aya, she has a survival spell card (and she doesn't have it on Easy mode).
- According to fans, she has similarities to Kagome from the anime series "Inuyasha".
- There is confusion among the fanbase whether she wears shorts or a skirt, due to the way her art is depicted.
- Her name is similar to that of Minamoto no Yorimasa (The archer who supposedly sealed Nue Houjuu).
- In some fanfics, she is fond of Japanese curry, because curry is said to have been eaten first and introduced into Japan by members of the Imperial Japanese Navy. Even the present-day Maritime Self-Defense Force has it for lunch every Friday in order to remember the day of the week even if they are at sea. (The Japanese Wikipedia even has a page about it: "海軍カレー".)
- She has been shown wielding her anchor as a weapon, and this has been the source of parody images comparing Murasa to May from the Guilty Gear series.
- Strangely, "Murasa" is written in kanji in UFO's manual, but is written with katakana when she appears in the game itself. This is not the case with Double Spoiler, though, where her name is flashed in kanji.

○Stage 4 Boss The Ghost of the Shipwreck Minamitsu Murasa Species: ship ghost The spirit of a human who fell off a ship and drowned in the distant past; due to her lingering attachment to this world, she was bound to the ocean and spent her days capsizing passing ships. Humans feared her. And so one day she reached a turning point. It was everything she'd wished for, too.
She didn't think she could expand her power of fear as a youkai just by sinking ships with normal humans on them anymore.
The monk that appeared was apparently very well known. Her status as a youkai would surely rise if she could sink the ship the monk was on.
"If I succeed," she thought, "maybe I can even attack a human that could free me from this cursed ocean." ―― A few days later, the ship bearing the monk who'd come to defeat her approached. But, contrary to her expectations, the monk was completely defenseless. This discouraged her. The monk was floating above the ocean. "You were looking for this ship, right? The monk had made the shining ship using her own powers. "That ship ... ... ! A youkai like her was much more afraid of spiritual attacks than swords or arrows. "The ship that brought us here was sunk in a shipwreck. The monk extended her hand out to me, into the oceans to which I was bound. "But you can captain this ship." And with those words, she could leave these cursed oceans behind. A few hundred years passed. She never imagined she would be sent flying back above ground by a geyser. |
