6F (Northwest Segment): Find Iku and she will join
Play Notes
At first glance, Iku will look like somewhat of an oddity. She excels in the magical department but has high HP and somewhat low SP. Her HP combined with her high MND will help her survive magical onslaughts... but if anything physical is thrown her way she will die pretty quickly. The main use of Iku is that Thunder Drum Shot and Light Dragon's Sigh both reduce DEF at a significant rate, for -50% and -40% DEF respectively. These debuffs can be a great asset if you are having trouble getting through tough enemies or bosses. Thundercloud Stickleback is also a great buff if Hong is around to cure the PAR that may occur. Iku is a great support unit to up the damage of your heavy hitters with her DEF debuffs and ATK buff. Exercise caution when enemies have strong physical attacks.
Don't expect any damage from it. Pure support move.

Recruitment
7F: Find Komachi
8F: Find and defeat four Calamitous Spirits
7F: Return to Komachi
Play Notes
Komachi is another tank, but she's very different from your other tanks. Instead of relying on a combination of HP, DEF, MND, and Affinities, Komachi simply has an HP count that dwarfs every other character in the game by a ridiculous amount... but is unstellar otherwise except for her good ailment resistances. Although at times this may make other tanks more effective, the later you are in the game (Especially in the Plus Disk), more attacks appear that completely ignore DEF and MND, making Komachi the best tank possible against these attacks. Although her ATK is good, her damage output generally isn't too great, but she's still capable of sweeping away enemy groups by causing DTH with Ferriage in the Deep Fog. Against bosses, Komachi sports the incredible Narrow Confines of Avici, a multi-debuff spell that can also cause PSN and PAR to bosses, debilitating even multi-target bosses with ease. It's only downside is a rather high SP cost for her rather low SP growth, but it's still an exceptionally valuable technique that shouldn't be overlooked.
In the game it says it decreases ATK, which is wrong. Not a mistranslation, originally it said that

2F: Recruit Cirno
2F-8F: Find a total of 8 events in which Cirno freezes a frog. On obtaining the last Frozen Frog, Suwako will attack. Defeat her
Play Notes
An odd take on the 'composite' attacker, Suwako sports stats typical of a nuke - good offensive stats but bad defensive stats. What makes her special is her ability to use both physical and magical attacks, and that she sports good attacks for both types. Although she is limited to target (Her ATK skills are single-target, and MAG are multi-target), she can still work well against single-target foes by keeping them stunned with Moreya's Iron Rings or take advantage of a NTR weakness with Croaking Frog, and can deal damage en masse to enemy groups via her two magical techniques. Just be ready to deal with her frail nature.

Recruitment
8F: After recruiting 20 characters in total, visit Sanae's location and defeat Sanae's rival
Play Notes
In many ways similar to a more powerful, but more costly, Minoriko. All of Sanae's capabilities are basically higher than Minoriko's are - her healing removes ailments, her Miracle Fruit adds to all stats, not just MND and DEF, and her offensive capabilities are actually usable. However, even with her excellent SP growth, her spells still cost notably more to cast, and tends to delay her longer. You may want to hold off on using Sanae for a bit even after you get her because of that and continue to favour Minoriko, but as level grows higher, SP will become less and less of an issue, and it will mostly come down to the choice of faster and slightly stronger healing (Minoriko) or ailment removal, wider buffing, and damage output (Sanae).
Good against enemies with high DEF. Large delay. Even if the game says it's FIR, it's non-elemental. Not a mistranslation

7F: Find and defeat Nitori in a random encounter
7F: Talk to Nitori in an event
8F: Find and defeat Nitori in another random encounter
8F: Talk to Nitori again
9F: Defeat Nitori as a boss
Play Notes
Nitori plays quite a bit like an ATK-based Marisa. She tears through enemy parties with her multi-target skills, and against bosses, her PDLC99MW Megawatt Linear Gun functions a great deal like a cheap, fixed damage Master Spark. Unfortunately, Nitori suffers from mediocre stat growths, poor ailment resistances, and two pitiful affinities. Her self-buff does little to help her bad defensive stats. In addition, as Marisa gains SP, Master Spark's variable damage output will quickly shoot well past that of Nitori's Linear Gun. If you want to use her against bosses, follow a similar strategy to Marisa: buff her ATK, have her fire off a few PDLC99MW's, and then swap her out to recover SP.

Recruitment
1F: Recruit Chen
9F: Defeat Reisen in front of the 10F Stairs
Ran is required to complete the game.
Play Notes
Backed by good survivability due to some excellent affinities and ailment resistance, and overall effective stats, Ran can see a lot of use against both regular foes and bosses. For enemies, her good Magic ensures that she can output good damage to take on enemy groups. However, for bosses, Ran's got a completely different use - probably one of the best support units there is. Her buff spells are extremely expensive, especially for how little they do directly. However, they carry the unique benefit of also raising the stats of the eight characters you're carrying in reserve. Due to the high SP cost, you may want to avoid Ran in boss battles until a while after you get her, but she can survive long enough to stack a few buffs and prepare your entire party at once, after she has developped the SP to be able to stack her spells up.
