6F (Northwest Segment): Find Iku and she will join
Play Notes
Iku is a support character, able to boost the power of an ally with Thundercloud Stickleback and decrease an enemy's defense with her first two spells. Her capabilities are useful, but other characters who join soon after can do the job better; Komachi decreases defense less per hit but inflicts several debuffs at once, and Sanae's Miracle Fruit increases ATK/MAG less but also boosts speed and defenses, without the side effect of paralysis. Her survivability and damage are passable, but nothing special.
Don't expect any damage from it. Pure support move.

Recruitment
7F: Find Komachi
8F: Find and defeat four Calamitous Spirits
7F: Return to Komachi
Play Notes
Komachi is another tank, but she's very different from your other tanks. Literally her only good stat for taking hits is HP. She'll always take high damage from attacks, but her HP is so high that she's capable of surviving very well anyways, especially against the defense-ignoring attacks that show up later. Although her ATK is good, her damage output generally isn't too great, but she's good against enemy groups with Ferriage in the Deep Fog or Narrow Confines of Avici. Narrow Confines of Avici is also great against bosses due to its wide variety of debuffs. It's only downside is a rather high SP cost for her low SP growth, but it's still an exceptionally valuable technique that shouldn't be overlooked. Stat-wise, focus on increasing HP and elemental affinities, since they reduce damage by a percentage. Boosting either of Komachi's pitiful defensive stats hardly helps at all.
In the game it says it decreases ATK, which is wrong. Not a mistranslation, originally it said that

2F: Recruit Cirno
2F-8F: Find a total of 8 events in which Cirno freezes a frog. On obtaining the last Frozen Frog, Suwako will attack. Defeat her
Play Notes
An odd take on the 'composite' attacker, Suwako sports stats typical of a nuke - good offensive stats but bad defensive stats. What makes her special is her ability to use both physical and magical attacks, and that she sports good attacks for both types. Although she is limited to target (Her ATK skills are single-target, and MAG are multi-target), she can still work well against single-target foes by keeping them stunned with Moreya's Iron Rings or take advantage of a NTR weakness with Croaking Frog, and can deal damage en masse to enemy groups via her two magical techniques. Just be ready to deal with her frail nature.

Recruitment
8F: After recruiting 20 characters in total, visit Sanae's location and defeat Sanae's rival
Play Notes
In many ways similar to a more powerful, but more costly, Minoriko. All of Sanae's capabilities are basically higher than Minoriko's are - her healing removes ailments, her Miracle Fruit adds to all stats, not just MND and DEF, and her offensive capabilities are actually usable. However, even with her excellent SP growth, her spells still cost notably more to cast, and delay her much longer. You may want to hold off on using Sanae for a bit even after you get her because of that and continue to favour Minoriko, but as level grows higher, SP will become less and less of an issue, and it will mostly come down to the choice of faster and slightly stronger healing, with a MND-ignoring attack (Minoriko) or ailment removal, wider buffing, and normal damage output (Sanae).
Large delay. Says it's FIR elemental, but patches made it non-elemental. Not a mistranslation. In patch 2.06, the damage formula is increased to (8 x ATK) instead of (5 x ATK)

7F: Find and defeat Nitori in a random encounter
7F: Talk to Nitori in an event
8F: Find and defeat Nitori in another random encounter
8F: Talk to Nitori again
9F: Defeat Nitori as a boss
Play Notes
Nitori plays quite a bit like an ATK-based Marisa. She tears through enemy parties with her multi-target skills, and against bosses, her PDLC99MW Megawatt Linear Gun functions a great deal like a cheap, fixed damage Master Spark. Unfortunately, Nitori suffers from mediocre stat growths, poor ailment resistances, and two pitiful affinities. Her self-buff does little to help her bad defensive stats. In addition, as Marisa gains SP, Master Spark's variable damage output will quickly shoot well past that of Nitori's Linear Gun. If you want to use her against bosses, follow a similar strategy to Marisa: buff her ATK, have her fire off a few PDLC99MW's, and then swap her out to recover SP.

Recruitment
1F: Recruit Chen
9F: Defeat Reisen in front of the 10F Stairs
Ran is required to complete the game.
Play Notes
Backed by good survivability due to some excellent affinities and ailment resistance, and overall effective stats, Ran is a very solid character. For enemies, her good Magic ensures that she can deal decent damage to enemy groups. However, for bosses, Ran has a completely different use - probably one of the best support units there is. Her buff spells are extremely expensive, especially for how little they do directly. However, they carry the unique benefit of also raising the stats of the eight characters you're carrying in reserve. In particular, the ability to boost the offenses of frail characters that you can't bring out to buff normally is a huge asset. She probably won't be able to buff more than twice when you first recruit her, but even that is helpful and her SP will only get higher. She also has very good speed and durability to make sure she can cast her spells safely.
