Fun Facts
- Byakuren's name read literally means "white lotus saint".
- Byakuren is the only character so far to have text on any of her cut-in portraits. Written in ZUN's hand on her final cut-in is 南無三!, which is short for 南無三宝 - roughly, hail to the three treasures of Buddhism (the Buddha, dharma, and the clergy). It's used to request salvation in a moment of danger.
- Because of her and Minamitsu Murasa's relationship and character designs, some fans have described them as newer versions of Yumemi Okazaki and Chiyuri Kitashirakawa
- Her 4th spell card looks identical to Shinki's second last attack. This has caused fans who expected Shinki or Mima to return after a lot of interest in the idea to hold her in contempt for stealing Shinki's moves and to believe ZUN is trolling them for wanting the aforementioned two back in a new game.
- This is strongly enforced by the fact that Hijiri is a Magician that is fought in Makai.
- A theory is starting to develop that Byakuren has a broken arm, because it's depicted at such an awkward angle.
- It is interesting to note that in her stage, the fairies at one point move in a "Space Invaders" or "Galaga" pattern: shooting bullets, then slowly moving down.
- Battling Byakuran reminds some fans of Yuyuko Saigyouji, as both have similar spell card designs use butterfly-shaped bullets. Both also have an interesting and intricate designs behind them as they cast their spell cards.
- Some fans also note that Byakuren's clothes are similar to Rozen Maiden's Suigintou's.
- Byakuren's first spell card strongly resembles one of Yukari's, her second resembles one of Yuyuko's, her third has a similar name to Marisa's Milky Way spell card, and her fourth looks like one of Shinki's patterns. ([1]). Perhaps Marisa isn't the only thief type now?
- Byakuren is one of the few Touhou characters with nothing on her head—no hat, no ribbons, no non-human attributes.
- She is considered something of a saint among fans, especially when compared to the ruthless and self-centered nature of the heroines, who reject her ideals for peace. Though to be fair, from the point of view of someone from a world where humans are oppressed, her appeals for human-youkai equality wouldn't make much sense.
- Some western Touhou fans compare her to Jesus Christ because she fought for youkai but got sealed away for their sins. Because of this, fans have affectionately dubbed her "Youkhrist".
