妖怪の山に住むとてもシャイな河童。実際に彼女が初めて霊夢たちと出会った時、彼女は一言だけ喋り、逃げてしまった。彼女は善良な性質だが、霊夢たちが通る時に、奇妙なスペルカードと弾幕で怖がらせようとした。妖怪の山は人間にとって非常に危険な場所で、にとりは、彼女達を傷つけたくなかった。彼女は実際に人間が好きである。彼女がちょうど、人間を回避する方法を知っているようには見えない。地霊殿の出来事の間、彼女は地下での核融合の新しいパワーについて、八坂神奈子から聞いた河童の一人であった。しかし、彼女達は地下に鬼がいるため、行こうとはしなかった。霊夢が地下で調査していることを知り、彼女は良いことをしているようには見えなかったため、魔理沙にも同様に調査するよう説得した。

トリビア

• 河城は、｢河の城｣を意味し、にとりは平仮名で書く。家具屋のニトリとは一切関係はない。
• 「にとり」は、「輝き、明るさ、輝き、素晴らしさ」、「忍耐強さ」、「信頼性」のいずれかとして定義されたラテン語でもある。
• 彼女の名前は芥川龍之介の小説「河童」にルーツを持つ。「河童」の第2章の始まりに「そのうちにやっと気がついてみると、僕は仰向けに倒れたまま、大勢の河童にとり囲まれていました。」とあり、ここから「にとり」という名になったと思われる。
• このシリーズの河童は、芥川龍之介の小説の河童に触発されているように見える。ここでは民間伝承での殺伐とした性質とは対照的に、独自の文明を持っている。
• にとりの「光学カモフラージュ」は、芥川氏が書いている河童の別の面を指しているかもしれない。
• 彼女のバックパックは河童や亀の甲羅にに似ている。河童ならではの恰好と言えよう。
• にとりは東方緋想天に登場したことのない東方地霊殿の唯一のプレイ可能なパートナーである。しかし、ZUNとのインタビューによると、彼女は東方非想天則に登場することを考えられていたが、時間の制約のために廃止されたという。
• カッパの伝統的な描写が頭の上に禿げた斑点を示すように、彼女の帽子がその禿げた部分を隠しているという噂がある。 しかし、ZUNは、自由な意見の飛び交う2ちゃんねるについての議論の中で、この噂を信用していなかった。
• いくつかの二次創作では、彼女が通常持っている葦の代わりにペプシのアイスキュウリを運んでいる。（河童はキュウリが大好きといわれており、これはにとりの｢お化けキューカンバー｣にも表れている）。彼女は服の下にスクール水着を着て描かれることもある。
• One of the earliest fan-made vocal arrangements of Nitori's theme music (Nitori's Song (Moe)) has lyrics that translate as "Kappappa kappappa Nitori, you get more than you pay for with Nitori". The latter part is from the slogan of the above-mentioned Nitori store chain, and several doujinshi have made it into something of an unofficial slogan for her as well. A reference to "kappappa kappappa" subsequently appeared in Subterranean Animism.

For a long time, kappa haven't let themselves be seen by humans, but since they usually hide to watch humans, they like to think that they are on good terms with humans. She may suddenly change her attitude or speech, and she possesses a rather odd personality, but she's unexpectedly shy. She runs away the moment she sees a human. Since she's an engineering nut, whenever she sees something man-made, she takes it apart and puts it back together. Because of this, her clothes are stuffed with tools. She wanted to turn away Reimu and the others who had entered the mountain, but this is only because she believed that there was some sort of emergency occurring on the mountain.

Super Youkai Warhead Nitori Kawashiro 種族: 河童 能力: 水を操る程度の能力 A kappa that lives on the mountain. Recently, the kappa heard some news that greatly excited them. According to the gods of the mountain, a high-temperature nuclear furnace was being completed underground. They wanted to get their hands on it as soon as possible to perform various tests with it. However, the kappa didn't want to go underground where the oni lived. As they were wondering how they could investigate the underground, they heard a rumor that Reimu would be going there at the request of the other youkai. Ever taking the initiative, Nitori decided to go convince Marisa to explore underground, since Marisa didn't seem to have anything better to do.
